Source

EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority). Co-funded EV chargers register. Export ≈ January 2026 (latest GoLiveDate in dataset = 2026-01-22; explicit export-date metadata absent from file). Likely sourced from the EECA EVRoam / NZ EV insights portal (URL_006).

Scope

  • 529 rows × 12 columns = co-funded EV charging sites that received EECA Low Emission Transport Fund (or predecessor LEVCF / successor scheme) support
  • Status: 525 Live + 4 In Progress
  • Years covered: GoLive dates 2017-01 → 2026-01
  • Power range: <22 kW (slow AC) to 350 kW (ultra-fast DC); total 36.85 MW installed
  • Geographic coverage: NZ-wide, all 16 regions represented (though taxonomy inconsistent — see caveats)
  • Companion datasets: RD_010 (full public register), RD_011 (district rollup), RD_012 (region rollup), URL_006 (portal description)

Relevance to NI and thesis

NI (Lower Moutere charger inventory + sizing):

  • 13 Nelson-Tasman co-funded sites (key_claim 6) feed the NI mobility skill’s “what already exists” baseline within ~40 km of pilot
  • BEVs-per-site ratio (key_claim 8) calibrates community-charger sizing — NMT regional load per co-funded site (about 154 BEVs) is comparable to the national average (about 174 per RD_011); national-average heuristics are a reasonable first cut for community-charger sizing
  • Co-funding model (key_claim 9) identifies the structural financing pathway for any community-owned charger proposal

Thesis (rural infrastructure provision + state-market co-investment):

  • Operator concentration (key_claim 3) — 12 operators across gentailers / retail / councils / accommodation / dedicated CPOs quantifies the diversified state-market model
  • Regional distribution (key_claim 5) — Auckland 81 vs Nelson-Tasman 13 = empirical anchor for rural-urban inequality argument
  • Deployment trajectory (key_claim 4) — 2025 record year + COVID trough — useful for the analysis on the timing of NZ clean-energy infrastructure rollout

Research targets

Research gaps

  • RT_136 (low) — EECA Region taxonomy normalisation. The register has “Northland” (24) and “Northland Region” (37) coded as separate values, plus 20 rows with empty Region. Direct EECA portal cleanup request would close. Affects geographic aggregation accuracy.
  • RT_137 (RESOLVED → OT_119) — EECA Low Emission Transport Fund (LETF / predecessor LEVCF) policy + per-project funding amounts, now held as OT_119: the 50%/500k co-funding rule (LETF Q&A) + the 218-project LEVCF register (per-project approved co-funding, incl. single-50-kW-charger awards ~46.8k–53.8k). Closes the "how much each received" gap this co-funded-sites register left open. (Register is LEVCF-era rounds 1–10, not post-2021 LETF-branded awards.)
