Summary
Frieden et al. review how the EU frames self-consumption and energy communities under the Renewable Energy Directive (REDII) and the Electricity Market Directive. The value for the thesis is definitional: the directive separates an individual “renewables self-consumer” from a group of “jointly acting renewables self-consumers”, the collective case, so the paper states in one place what self-sufficiency means at the household scale and at the community scale. It gives the literature review the clean individual-versus-community distinction the argument needs, with the quantified counterpart supplied by LIT_128.
