Tesla Powerwall 3 Datasheet (2024)
Primary manufacturer datasheet — the canonical source behind the CR_008 RTE boundary (RT_093)
Tesla Powerwall 3 is an integrated solar-inverter + LFP-battery home unit: 13.5 kWh AC storage, up to 11.04 kW AC continuous per unit, up to 20 kW DC solar input across 3 MPPTs. The two efficiency figures the wiki quoted secondhand via CR_008 are confirmed at primary level and named exactly: 89% “Solar to Battery to Home/Grid Efficiency” (the full solar-charged path — PV → battery → AC discharge, at 25 °C, beginning of life, 3.3 kW charge/discharge, “typical solar shifting use case”) and 97.5% “Solar to Home/Grid Efficiency” (PV pass-through, no battery). Grid connection is Australia and New Zealand, 230 VAC / 50 Hz single phase — directly NZ-applicable. ⚠ The 89% is a solar-charged full-path figure that INCLUDES the PV-conversion leg; it is NOT the grid-charged AC-AC battery round-trip the NI engine’s
batt_rtemeters (see NI relevance).
Summary
Official Tesla technical datasheet for the Powerwall 3, a fully integrated residential solar-and-battery unit combining a solar inverter (up to 20 kW DC PV, 3 Maximum Power Point Trackers) with a 13.5 kWh AC LFP battery and up to 11.04 kW AC continuous output in a single wall/floor-mounted enclosure. This is the primary source RT_093 was opened to retrieve: CR_008 (a Perplexity synthesis) quoted the 89% full solar→battery→home round-trip efficiency and the 97.5% inverter boundary but at second hand; this datasheet confirms both figures verbatim and — more usefully — gives their exact datasheet labels and measurement footnotes, which pin down the boundary each one refers to. Grid connection is certified for Australia and New Zealand (230 VAC, 50 Hz, single phase), so the unit’s ratings apply directly to the NZ residential/community context. The datasheet covers system electrical ratings, solar/MPPT limits, environmental envelope (–20 °C to 50 °C, IP55/IP67, 3000 m altitude), mechanical (1105 × 609 × 193 mm, 130 kg), compliance (IEC 62619, UL 1973, UL 9540A, AS 4777.2), and the companion Backup Gateway 2. It carries no price and no capacity-retention/degradation schedule (only a 10-year comprehensive warranty is stated) — those remain with CR_008 (NZ pricing) and a separate Tesla warranty document (retention curve).

This is the primary artefact behind RT_093 and it feeds D01 (renewable energy & storage). Its value to Neobiome Intelligence is threefold.
- It resolves the RTE-boundary provenance for D01. The engine’s battery round-trip efficiency parameter has been carried on secondhand quotes (CR_008: “use 89%”; CR_036: 0.88 AC-AC anchored on NREL ATB). This datasheet gives the number at primary level with its exact label: the 89% is “Solar to Battery to Home/Grid Efficiency” — a solar-charged full path (PV DC → battery → AC discharge to home/grid), measured at 25 °C, beginning of life, 3.3 kW charge/discharge, “typical solar shifting use case,” and the 97.5% is “Solar to Home/Grid Efficiency” (PV straight through the inverter, no battery). CR_008’s number and boundary were correct; this page removes the “via Perplexity quote” caveat RT_093 was opened to remove.
- ⚠ Boundary caution — do NOT drop 89% into
batt_rteas an AC-AC battery round-trip. The engine meters AC and itsbatt_rteis a grid-in→grid-out (or PV-charged) battery-only AC-AC round-trip. The datasheet’s 89% is a solar→battery→home/grid path that already includes the PV-conversion (MPPT/inverter) leg, so it is a different, wider boundary than the pure battery round-trip. This datasheet does not publish a grid-charged AC-AC battery-only RTE. The engine’s current 0.88 AC-AC value (CR_036, NREL ATB-anchored) remains the defensible battery-only figure; the 89% here should be used only where the modelled path is solar-charged storage (which is close to the NI off-grid use case), and even then it is a solar-shifting best case (25 °C, beginning of life). ⚠ This datasheet traces a CR_036 error. CR_036 cited a “Tesla Megapack 2 89% AC-AC round-trip” — that attribution is simply wrong, not merely “a different product.” The 89% is not a Megapack round-trip figure at all; it is this Powerwall 3 datasheet’s “Solar to Battery to Home/Grid Efficiency” (89%) — a solar-charged full-path number (PV → battery → AC) — misread onto the Megapack. (CR_036’s own 2026-06-22 audit note already flags the 89% as not matching the real Megapack 2, which the actual Megapack datasheet gives as 92–94% AC-AC.) The genuine battery-only AC-AC value for the engine stays 0.88 (NREL ATB 85% leg); the 89% must not be read as a Megapack figure or as a grid-charged battery round-trip. The CR_036 page has been annotated with this correction. - NZ-applicable component ratings for community sizing (D01). Grid connection is certified for Australia and New Zealand at 230 VAC / 50 Hz single phase, so the unit’s headline ratings are directly usable as an NZ off-grid/resilience storage building block: 13.5 kWh AC per unit, up to 11.04 kW AC continuous, up to 4 units per installation (≈ 54 kWh / ~44 kW AC), 20 kW DC solar per unit across 3 MPPTs, 185 A LRA motor-start, IP55/IP67, –20 °C to 50 °C. These are equipment ratings (not installed cost) and complement the NZ installed-price envelope already held in CR_008 (NZD
14,000–24,000/unit installed; Tesla NZ list 1 PW3 + 2 expansion = NZD $34,300 hardware-only) and the Tesla Powerwall pack-cost anchor in LIT_031.
Scope note: the datasheet carries no cost and no capacity-retention/cycle-life schedule (only a 10-year comprehensive warranty). Degradation and installed price stay with the existing CR_008 / CR_036 evidence; this page is the ratings-and-efficiency primary, not a cost or lifecycle source.
Research targets
Resolved
- RT_093 (RESOLVED → this page). Tesla Powerwall 3 official datasheet retrieved and read verbatim. It confirms both figures at primary level: 89% “Solar to Battery to Home/Grid Efficiency” and 97.5% “Solar to Home/Grid Efficiency” (System Technical Specifications). Note the datasheet’s own label for the 97.5% figure is “Solar to Home/Grid Efficiency” (a PV pass-through boundary), not the “97.5% peak inverter efficiency” phrasing RT_093 carried from the CR_008 gloss — the figure matches; the exact boundary term is corrected here.
Notes
Primary manufacturer datasheet (Tesla Powerwall 3 Datasheet, 7-page A4 PDF, “2024” printed on every spec page; PDF CreationDate 2024-08-16). Read verbatim via pdftotext -layout; data_quality: verified — every quantitative claim traces to a specific spec-table cell.
⚠ Marketing summary box NOT used for figures. The marketing summary box is garbled in OCR (‘1,099 x 609 x 193 mᏂ’, ‘¯Äk¹ of continuous power’, ‘Scaâaåâe’, ‘Instaââation’) and rounds/abbreviates. All figures are taken from the clean technical-specification tables. Where the summary and the spec table conflict, the spec table wins: the Mechanical Specifications dimensions are 1105 × 609 × 193 mm, not the “1,099” shown in the garbled summary.
⚠ 89% boundary is load-bearing — see NI relevance. The 89% is “Solar to Battery to Home/Grid Efficiency” (a solar-charged full path incl. PV conversion), NOT a grid-charged AC-AC battery-only round-trip. Do not substitute it directly for the engine’s batt_rte AC-AC value (0.88, CR_036) without matching the modelled charge path. This same 89% is the figure CR_036 mis-attributed to the Tesla Megapack 2 (corrected on that page).
